Moong (Green Gram) Market – July 2025 Report
★ Prices of moong gained support from government procurement; acreage has also increased.
★ In Madhya Pradesh, initially there was no procurement, but due to pressure from farmers and the opposition, procurement began, which positively impacted prices.
★ For example, in Pipariya, moong that traded at a low of ₹7,200/quintal in early July has now risen to around ₹7,600/quintal.
★ Arrivals in Karnataka and Rajasthan have remained very weak.
★ Sowing data is becoming clearer – IGrain India had earlier reported a decline in acreage for some pulses, which is now being confirmed. The situation will be clearer in the next 15 days.
★ Due to farmer dissatisfaction over low pulse prices, acreage under tur (pigeon pea) and urad has declined, while moong acreage has increased.
★ Moong imports remain restricted, and its market largely operates on real demand-supply fundamentals, with intermittent government procurement support.
★ In Rajasthan, the leading moong-producing state, monsoon performance has been good, which is likely to boost productivity.
★ However, excess rainfall at this stage could damage the crop. The future of the moong crop depends largely on weather conditions. If the weather remains favorable, record production is possible. Crops in Karnataka and Maharashtra are also in good condition.
