Mustard Arrivals Estimated at 7.2 Million Tonnes by End of July

Jaipur. The pace of mustard arrivals in the wholesale markets of major producing states has now begun to slow down. According to data compiled by Anil Chatar, Managing Director of Marudhar Trading Agency—a renowned firm located at the Chandpole grain market in Jaipur—total mustard arrivals in the country reached 7.2 million tonnes during the first five months (March–July 2026) of the current marketing season. Of this, only 50,000 tonnes reached government procurement centers, while the remainder arrived in open markets. Mustard arrivals at government procurement centers occurred only in May. In July, 0.7 million tonnes of mustard arrived in open markets.

According to Marudhar Trading Agency, with an opening stock of 0.2 million tonnes and an estimated production of 10.725 million tonnes, the total availability of mustard stood at 10.925 million tonnes; of this, 7.2 million tonnes arrived in the market, leaving farmers with a stock of 3.725 million tonnes as of July 31, 2026. Regarding government agencies, they held an old stock of 0.1 million tonnes which has been sold, but the stock of 50,000 tonnes procured during the current season remains.

It is noteworthy that while domestic mustard production was initially estimated at 11.725 million tonnes during the Rabi Oilseeds and Oil Seminar held in Bharatpur, this figure was revised downward by 0.7 million tonnes to 11.025 million tonnes during a meeting held in Gurugram on August 1, 2026. Mustard crushing during the March–July period totaled 6.1 million tonnes. As of August 1, 2026, the total remaining mustard stock in the country stood at 5.025 million tonnes.
