In 2024, Myanmar is set to export significant amounts of pulses to global markets, primarily to India. The key exports include:
Urad (Black Gram): Myanmar is projected to export around 8.90 lakh tonnes of urad throughout the year. Monthly shipments will average around 74,135 tonnes. The export data shows that Myanmar's exports peaked in May with 1,02,662 tonnes, while the smallest shipment was in December, at 55,444 tonnes. The primary market for urad is India.
Tuvar (Pigeon Pea): The total export of tuvar is estimated at approximately 3.13 lakh tonnes, with an average monthly export of 26,114 tonnes. Myanmar's tuvar shipments ranged from 12,704 tonnes in July to 40,572 tonnes in May, with India being the largest importer.
Moong (Green Gram): Myanmar's moong exports are estimated at 6.02 lakh tonnes, averaging 50,136 tonnes per month. However, moong exports do not go to India, as it is banned there.
Additionally, Myanmar's pulse sowing has been completed, and reports suggest that the crop is in good condition, with a larger harvest expected in the coming months as harvesting is underway.
