News Capsule: Australian Pulse Market
★ Australia’s 2025–26 pulse crop harvest has been completed. Following this, the chickpea market is showing strength, while lentil prices are trading in a narrow range. Both crops have seen record or near-record production this season.
Chickpeas
★ Chickpea prices have strengthened in recent days, with Brisbane delivery values reaching around USD 625 per tonne.
★ Some farmer selling is now emerging as prices have improved, and freight costs have eased due to urea back-loading.
★ However, strong demand from India is unlikely due to good rabi chickpea crop conditions there and a 10% import duty.
★ Limited demand continues from Pakistan and Bangladesh. Farmers in northern New South Wales are still holding significant stocks.

Lentils
★ Lentil prices are steady at around USD 640 per tonne. Over the past few weeks, only limited upside and downside movement has been seen, and the market is currently quiet.
★ Despite record production in Victoria and South Australia, farmer selling remains limited, resulting in a gradual flow of supply into the market. Canadian lentil prices are also reported to be around similar levels to Australian lentils.
★ Overall, the chickpea market is showing a firm tone, while lentils remain stable for now.
