News Capsule: Malaysia Expects Average Crude Palm Oil Price of RM4,000-4,300 Per Tonne in 2026
★ The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) expects the average price of crude palm oil (CPO) to remain between RM4,000 and RM4,300 per tonne in 2026. MPOB Director General Dr. Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir said strong global crude oil prices, driven by tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, are supporting palm oil and other vegetable oil prices.
★ He added that the lingering effects of El Niño, including hotter weather and lower rainfall, could adversely affect oil palm pollination, potentially reducing production and oil extraction yields in the coming months.
★ On the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), he said more than 80% of smallholders in Peninsular Malaysia are already prepared for compliance. MPOB aims to bring 90-95% of eligible smallholders into the compliance system before the regulation takes effect for smallholders next year, ensuring uninterrupted exports to the EU market.
