News Capsule: Relief in UP Wheat Procurement, Registration Requirement Removed
★ The requirement of farmer registration for wheat procurement has been removed. Farmers can now sell their produce at government procurement centers even without prior registration.
★ The government has directed all district authorities to implement this order with immediate effect, aiming to ease the selling process for farmers.
★ In terms of data, Uttar Pradesh has set a wheat procurement target of 20 lakh tonnes this year, out of which 2.37 lakh tonnes had been procured as of April 19, 2026. In comparison, last year only 10.27 lakh tonnes were procured against a target of 30 lakh tonnes.
★ If procurement norms are further relaxed, wheat procurement from Uttar Pradesh could increase. For now, the recent decision is expected to slightly improve the pace of procurement.
