News Capsule: Sugar exports from India not feasible at the moment
★ The international sugar market is currently at a multi-year low.
★ Recently, the government allowed the export of 1.5 million tons of sugar, while ISMA had requested approval for 2 million tons.
★ Higher production in Brazil, India, and Indonesia has increased global availability, putting downward pressure on prices.
★ At the current price levels, sugar exports are not profitable, which will affect export activity.
★ Out of the 1 million tons allocated for export last year, only 0.75–0.8 million tons were actually exported.
