Thiruvananthapuram. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said in its weather scenario (report) released for the next fortnight that the South-west monsoon,
which remains active in the four months of June to September, has started returning and by the second week of October it may completely depart from the mainland of the country.
After this, the North-east monsoon may become active in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh around 15 October.
It is worth mentioning that the time of North-east monsoon is considered to be from October to December and during this period, especially South India receives good rainfall.
The statistical model shows that from 8-9 October, the flow of South-west wind will start stopping and the way will gradually be paved for the flow of North-east wind.
Except for occasional unexpected occasions, this trend of air flow will be seen over the Bay of Bengal, Southern Peninsula and Arabian Sea.
This process can be completed in the next 3-4 days from 8-9 October, therefore, the arrival of North-East monsoon is expected by 15 October.
At the same time, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal and its equivalent circulation in the Arabian Sea, which can provide speed and strength to the North-East monsoon to move forward.
According to the Meteorological Department, during the North-East monsoon, between October and December, South India may receive more rainfall than the normal average.
This also includes Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. There, 112 percent rainfall has been estimated as compared to the average long-term rainfall of 33.4 cm, which is expected to benefit the Rabi crops.
