Geneva. The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has estimated a 3.2 percent decline in global pistachio production, dropping by 37 thousand tonnes from 11.68 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season to 11.31 lakh tonnes in the 2025-26 season.
While production is expected to rise in countries such as the United States, Iran, Spain, Greece, Italy and Afghanistan, notable declines are anticipated in Turkey, Syria and Australia.
According to INC data, pistachio production in the US is expected to increase significantly from 5.04 lakh tonnes to 7.26 lakh tonnes, in Iran from 2 lakh tonnes to 2.20 lakh tonnes, in Spain from 4,500 tonnes to 9,600 tonnes, in Greece
from 6,000 tonnes to 8,300 tonnes, in Italy from 2,800 tonnes to 4,100 tonnes and in Afghanistan from 2,500 tonnes to 2,600 tonnes. Production in China is likely to remain stable at 300 tonnes.
On the other hand, Turkey is expected to see a sharp drop in production from 4.16 lakh tonnes to 1.43 lakh tonnes, Syria from 28,000 tonnes to 13,000 tonnes, and Australia from 4,450 tonnes to 3,000 tonnes.
However, an outstanding stock of about 2.43 lakh tonnes in Turkey is expected to improve the overall availability situation.
The United States accounts for 55–60 percent of global pistachio production, followed by Turkey and Iran. However, Iran leads in the export of pistachio kernels. Major importers include China, India and countries across Europe.
