Rabi Crop Sown Area Increases by Nearly 28 Lakh Hectares

New Delhi. The latest weekly report released by the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that the total Rabi crop production area during the current year, as of November 7, 2025, has increased to 130.32 lakh hectares,
an increase of 27.82 lakh hectares from the 102.50 lakh hectares sown during the same period last year. Interestingly, the area under paddy, wheat, pulses, oilseeds, and coarse grains is all ahead of last year.
According to official data, during the current Rabi season, the national area under paddy production improved from 5.71 lakh hectares to 6.18 lakh hectares, wheat area jumped from 9.98 lakh hectares to 22.72 lakh hectares, and pulses area increased from 30.43 lakh hectares to 36.83 lakh hectares.
Similarly, the area under coarse grains improved from 9.02 lakh hectares to 10.13 lakh hectares, and the area under oilseeds increased from 47.35 lakh hectares to 54.46 lakh hectares.
Among pulse crops, the sowing area of gram, lentils, peas, and horse gram is ahead of last year, but the area under black gram and green gram is lagging behind.
The area under gram has increased from 20.51 lakh hectares last year to 26.81 lakh hectares this time.
Similarly, among oilseed crops, the area under mustard production has increased, as expected, from 46.15 lakh hectares to 53.35 lakh hectares, while the sowing area of other oilseeds has been limited.
Regarding coarse grains, the sowing area under maize has surpassed last year's level, reaching 3.21 lakh hectares (2.83 lakh hectares last year).
The area under Jowar has increased to 5.28 lakh hectares as compared to 5.26 lakh hectares and the area under Ragi has reached 47 thousand hectares as compared to 38 thousand hectares.
The area under barley production has also increased more than double and it has jumped from 51 thousand hectares to 1.12 lakh hectares.
This time a good increase is expected in the area under mustard, gram, wheat and barley production and due to various reasons farmers are very enthusiastic about their cultivation.
The area under lentils and peas is also expected to increase. The area under other crops may remain normal.
