The rabi pulses sowing situation has now become largely clear, and it can be said that sowing of chickpea, lentil and pea is nearing completion. Recent official data indicates that there is limited scope for any major change in acreage at this stage.

According to the data, chickpea sowing in the ongoing rabi season 2025–26 has so far reached 9.588 million hectares, compared with 9.122 million hectares during the same period last year. This indicates that chickpea sowing is now in its final phase, with a noticeable increase in acreage.

Lentil sowing in the current season has so far been reported at 1.706 million hectares, marginally higher than 1.685 million hectares recorded during the corresponding period last year. Lentil sowing is also considered to be almost complete.

Meanwhile, pea sowing has reached 0.792 million hectares so far, compared with 0.827 million hectares at the same time last year. Sowing activity in peas is also reported to be close to completion.

Overall, after an initial surge, the pace of sowing in the pulses segment is now slowing, indicating that the rabi pulses acreage is largely settled. Going forward, production estimates will depend more on weather conditions and crop development.
