Hobart. The good rains in the recent days have not only helped farmers in Western Australia province to increase the area sown under winter crops but have also benefited the crops.
The sowing process is almost over and is now progressing well, which is expected to increase the yield rate significantly.
According to the latest report of the Grain Industry Association of Western Australia (Giwa), the total sown area under winter crops is expected to increase to 87.48 lakh hectares,
which is 2.80 lakh hectares more than the estimate made in the May report. Agricultural production in the state can either be at average level or better than average.
During the last two weeks, several rounds of rains occurred in various parts of Western Australia province, which ensured good germination of seeds despite sowing in dry fields.
Before the rains, the weather remained hot and dry in most parts of the state. Where the seeds had already germinated, the condition of the crop has become encouraging.
Till the beginning of the current month (June), there was a severe drought in many areas of the state, which has now been largely resolved.
The central and northern regions of the state were feeling the dire need of rain, which has now been fulfilled or ended.
