Kathmandu. The regular import of refined edible oils from India's northern neighbor—Nepal—continues unabated. Among these imports, soybean oil accounts for the largest volume.
According to available data, during the first quarter of the current marketing season—specifically from November 2025 to January 2026—a total of approximately 162,000 tonnes of edible oil was exported from Nepal to India.
This total comprised 142,133 tonnes of refined soybean oil, 12,123 tonnes of refined sunflower oil, and 6,793 tonnes of RBD Palmolein.
In February 2026, approximately 55,000 tonnes of edible oils were exported from Nepal to India. This volume consisted primarily of refined soybean oil, along with smaller quantities of refined sunflower oil and RBD palm oil/Palmolein.
It is noteworthy that Nepal exports these edible oils to India after meeting its own domestic demand and consumption requirements.
The underlying reason for this is that large quantities of crude edible oils are imported into Nepal from abroad; these oils are then refined locally and subsequently exported to India as refined edible oils.
