Mysore: Driven by low carry-over stocks from the previous season, improved export performance, and a surge in consumer demand, rice prices—particularly for 'A' grade varieties—have risen by an average of approximately 10 percent across markets in Karnataka. This season, a substantial quantity of rice has been exported from Karnataka to international markets.

Prices for premium-quality varieties, such as Basmati and Jeera rice, have witnessed the most significant increases. According to available reports, the average price of Basmati rice has risen from ₹90 to ₹115 per kilogram, while the price of Jeera rice has surged from ₹180 to reach a peak of ₹220 per kilogram. Concurrently, prices for general-category rice varieties have also seen an uptick; specifically, the price of Sona Masuri rice has improved from ₹40 to ₹45 per kilogram, and the price of Bullet rice has risen from ₹65 to ₹75 per kilogram.

According to trade analysts, based on the prevailing dynamics between supply and demand, the trend of fluctuating rice prices is likely to persist in the near term. Market sentiment is expected to remain firm. Although the consumption of food products derived from wheat has increased in Karnataka in recent years, rice remains the staple diet for the majority of the population, and the state also boasts a robust production output of the grain.
