Russia's Pulse Crop Situation
★ Peas, lentils, and kabuli chickpeas are reported to have a good crop outlook this year, and harvesting is getting underway.
★ In 2025, Russia’s pulse production is expected to reach:
★ Peas: 4.5 million tonnes (mostly yellow peas)
★ Kabuli chickpeas: 0.8 million tonnes
★ Lentils: 0.6 million tonnes (50% green, 50% red)
★ The pulse market has remained under pressure for most of 2025. This decline is driven more by weak demand rather than oversupply.
★ India and China are currently utilizing previously purchased stocks, leading to limited new buying activity. In India, there is no shortage of pigeon peas (tur) this year, which has pushed green lentil prices lower. Additionally, Canada and Australia’s strong red lentil crops are further weighing down prices.
★ Current prices are considered attractive, and experts suggest that buyers should become more active in securing deals.
