Signs of rise in cumin prices amid strong export demand

Rajkot. Despite increased supply from the ongoing harvest, cumin prices are showing signs of firming up due to strong domestic and global demand. With major producers like Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Afghanistan nearly out of the export market, India has emerged as the key global supplier.
Exporters, particularly in Gujarat’s Unjha market, are actively purchasing large quantities to meet international orders from countries such as China, Pakistan, and Gulf nations. Domestic demand is also picking up ahead of the wedding season, prompting traders to build stock.
Currently, around 40,000–42,000 bags of cumin are arriving daily in Unjha Mandi, with steady arrivals in Rajasthan too.
Interestingly, even Turkey is importing cumin from India due to its own supply shortage. Prices in China have also risen, pushing buyers there to begin purchases after initially holding out for a price drop.
Cumin exports are expected to perform well in the April–June quarter, with further global demand anticipated once Türkiye’s import season begins.
