Indore. Data from a leading industry body—the Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA)—reveals that during the first half of the current marketing season (i.e., October 2025 to March 2026), total soybean arrivals across mandis nationwide amounted to 6.3 million tonnes.
This figure represents a decline of 0.9 million tonnes compared to the supply of 7.2 million tonnes recorded during the corresponding period of the 2024-25 season. During the period under review, soybean imports surged from 2,000 tonnes to 309,000 tonnes, while exports improved from 7,000 tonnes to reach 11,000 tonnes.
In the first half, direct consumption of soybean also rose from 270,000 tonnes to 280,000 tonnes; however, crushing activity declined from 6.05 million tonnes to settle at 5.7 million tonnes. Thus, a total of 5.991 million tonnes of soybean was utilized.
According to SOPA, for the ongoing 2025-26 marketing season (October–September), the total availability of soybean is estimated to reach 12.392 million tonnes. This projection is based on a carry-over stock of 766,000 tonnes from the previous season, a production volume of 11.026 million tonnes, and an anticipated import volume of 600,000 tonnes. Of this total, a stock of 1 million tonnes will be reserved for future sowing, while the remaining 11.392 million tonnes will be available for crushing/processing, direct consumption, and export.
Out of this total available stock of 11.392 million tonnes, 5.991 million tonnes of soybean has already been utilized, leaving a remaining stock of 5.11 million tonnes (excluding pending imports). According to SOPA's monthly report, 44.98 lakh tonnes of soymeal were exported from the country during the period from October 2025 to March 2026, which was lower than the production of 47.74 lakh tonnes recorded in the 2024-25 season. During this period, there were no imports of soymeal from abroad, while exports from the country declined from 11.12 lakh tonnes to 7.72 lakh tonnes. Domestic consumption stood at 36.70 lakh tonnes.
