Spice Exports Up 29% in Apr–Jun, Cumin Shipments Lag

Kochi. Data from the Spices Board of India shows that in the first quarter of the current financial year i.e. during April-June 2025, the shipment of spices from the country increased to 5,19,469 tonnes,
which was about 29 percent more than the shipment of 4,02,220 tonnes in the same period last year. This is the situation when the export of cumin fell by a huge 19 percent. During the period under review, the export income of spices also increased by 5 percent to $ 1.19 billion.
According to the data of the Spices Board, during the first quarter of the current financial year, compared to last year, the export of cumin fell by 19 percent to 62,861 tonnes and the export of fennel fell by 74 percent to 8907 tonnes. Similarly,
export of black cardamom fell by 7 percent to 323 tons and combined export of spices like asafoetida, cinnamon, bay leaf, Kamboj and saffron fell by 29 percent to 12,401 tons.
Apart from this, export of celery fell by 39 percent to 1350 tons, export of nutmeg-mace fell by 14 percent. Export of mint products (menthol, menthol crystal and mint oil) also fell by 18 percent to 5424 tons. On the other hand, during the period under review, a tremendous increase was recorded in the export of many spices.
Under this, export of ginger (saunth) increased by a tremendous 371 percent to 49,078 tons and export of red chilli increased by 94 percent to 2,21,029 tons. Similarly, the export of coriander increased by 14 percent to 19,101 tonnes and the export of turmeric improved by 3 percent to 47,950 tonnes.
According to the data of the Spices Board, in the quarter of April-June 2025, compared to the same period last year, the export of small cardamom increased by 29 percent to 2301 tonnes,
the export of black pepper increased by 11 percent to 5339 tonnes and the export of garlic increased by 9 percent to 12,147 tonnes. Spices are exported from India to many countries of the world.
