Stock of 602 Lakh Tonnes of Foodgrains in the Central Pool

New Delhi. Although government procurement of the Kharif paddy crop has largely concluded, rice millers continue to regularly supply custom-milled rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

Meanwhile, the new marketing season for government wheat procurement commenced on April 1, raising expectations that stocks will increase in the near future.

According to official statistics, as of April 1, 2026, the Central Pool held a total foodgrain stock of 602 lakh tonnes, comprising 380 lakh tonnes of rice and 222 lakh tonnes of wheat. Prior to this—on March 6, 2026—the total foodgrain stock stood at 600.96 lakh tonnes,

consisting of 364.74 lakh tonnes of rice and 236.22 lakh tonnes of wheat. Thus, compared to March, the rice stock at the beginning of April was higher by 15.26 lakh tonnes,

while the wheat stock was lower by 14.22 lakh tonnes. On April 1, 2025, the Central Pool had a total foodgrain stock of 500.03 lakh tonnes, comprising 382.09 lakh tonnes of rice and 117.94 lakh tonnes of wheat.
