Stocks of Pulses and Peas in Canada (STATCAN Report)
Lentils:
★ As of December 2023, Canada's lentil stock was 1.15 million tons, which declined to 0.8 million tons by March 2024, and further dropped sharply to just 0.17 million tons by July 2024.
★ With the arrival of the new crop in December 2024, stocks rose again to 1.49 million tons. However, after accounting for exports, stocks are expected to settle at 1.05 million tons by March 2025.
★ Lentil harvesting in Canada generally begins in October. Due to a drop in production two seasons ago, the July 2024 stock fell to a multi-year low. However, with good production in the latest season, stocks have recovered significantly.

Peas
★ Pea stocks stood at 1.89 million tons in December 2023, which declined to 0.96 million tons in March 2024 and further fell to just 0.3 million tons by July 2024.
★ Post-harvest, the stocks rebounded to 1.71 million tons in December 2024, and are expected to be around 1.36 million tons by March 2025.
★ Like lentils, peas follow a similar crop cycle. After India reopened imports in December 2023, exports from Canada saw a significant surge.
