Sugar Prices Continue to Rise: ISMA
★ Since the beginning of the season in October, sugar production reached 197 lakh tons by February 15, which is 12% lower than the same period last year.
★ Due to declining production and exports, sugar prices have been rising. For the past three years, prices remained weak for various reasons, but now they are steadily increasing.
★ On January 20, the government approved the export of 10 lakh tons of sugar.
★ In the 2022-23 season, India exported 61 lakh tons of sugar, while in 2021-22, exports stood at 111 lakh tons.
★ According to ISMA, sugar production in 2024-25 is expected to be 272.7 lakh tons, which is 15% lower than last year and the lowest in five years.
★ With declining production and exports, prices are expected to continue rising.
