Mumbai. The price of sugar softened a bit in the mills of Uttar Pradesh last day but remained stable in Maharashtra. Its demand remains weak, so there is no possibility of much increase in prices in the near future.

According to trade analysts, on August 19, the ex-factory price of sugar in Uttar Pradesh fell by 10-15 rupees per quintal. Traders and dealers are showing less interest in its purchase.

Although many festivals will be celebrated in the coming time, but still the expected demand for sugar is not being seen, due to which there is pressure on the prices.

According to critics, when the free sale quota was released for the month of August, the ex-factory price of sugar had increased by 90-100 rupees per quintal, but after that a period of softening started and its price has come down to 30 rupees per quintal. In the beginning of August, good demand was seen from buyers for sugar, which later weakened.

On the other hand, the price of sugar in Maharashtra has remained almost stable amid limited business. The secretary of Bombay Sugar Merchants Association says that the price of sugar may remain around the current level for the next four-five days.

Due to heavy rainfall in various areas of Maharashtra, the demand for sugar has slowed down. It can improve only after the rain stops.

On August 19, the ex-factory price of sugar fell by 10-15 rupees to 3915-4010 rupees per quintal in western Uttar Pradesh and also fell by 10-15 rupees to 3915-4010 rupees per quintal in central Uttar Pradesh.

On the other hand, the price of sugar in Mumbai, Maharashtra remained stable at 4092-4182 rupees per quintal and in Kolhapur at 3920/3980 rupees per quintal.

The futures price of raw sugar improved by 0.5 percent to 16.34 cents per pound at the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in New York.

This time less than 600 million tonnes of sugarcane is expected to be crushed in Brazil, while millers are using more quantity of sugarcane in ethanol production instead of sugar.

The interesting fact is that Brazil's government agency - CONAB had estimated the crushing of 663.4 million tonnes of sugarcane inside the country in the current marketing season of 2025-26.
