Sugar Production Report – Status as of May 15, 2025 (ISMA)
★ The 2024-25 sugar season has reached a production level of 257.44 lakh tons as of May 15, 2025.
★ Currently, only two sugar mills (both in Tamil Nadu – operating under the special crushing season) are in operation. These mills are expected to add another 4 to 5 lakh tons of sugar between June/July and September 2025.

Sugar Season 2024–25: Snapshot of Production, Consumption, and Stock
★ The total sugar production for the season is projected to reach 261–262 lakh tons. This includes the 257.44 lakh tons already produced and an estimated 4–5 lakh tons from the upcoming special season.
★ The season began with an opening stock of 80 lakh tons. With an expected domestic consumption of 280 lakh tons and estimated exports of 9 lakh tons, the closing stock is likely to be around 52–53 lakh tons.

Sugar Diversion for Ethanol Production
★ By April 30, 2025, around 27 lakh tons of sugar had already been diverted for ethanol production. An additional diversion of 6–7 lakh tons is anticipated during the remainder of the season.

2025–26 Sugar Season: A Promising Outlook
★ Sugarcane planting has increased in Maharashtra and Karnataka, supported by a favorable 2024 southwest monsoon.
★ In northern India, new sugarcane varieties are expected to deliver better yields and higher recovery rates.
★ Weather forecasts by IMD indicate a normal southwest monsoon in 2025, which will further support healthy crop growth.
★ Together, these factors indicate strong potential for a robust sugar production season in 2025–26.
