Sugar Production Up Nearly 50% as of November 30

New Delhi. Latest data released by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF), the leading organization of cooperative sugar mills, shows that total sugar production in the country jumped to 41.35 lakh tonnes in the first two months of the current marketing season (October-September) of 2025-26, i.e., from October 1st to November 30th, 2025,

an increase of 13.75 lakh tonnes or 49.82 percent from the production of 27.60 lakh tonnes in the same period last year. The total number of sugarcane crushing units increased from 382 to 424,

and the quantity of sugarcane crushed jumped from 333.64 lakh tonnes to 486.13 lakh tonnes. Not only this, but the average recovery rate of sugar from sugarcane at the national level also improved from 8.27 percent to 8.51 percent during the period under review.

According to the Federation, during October-November 2025, compared to last year, sugar production in Uttar Pradesh increased from 12.90 lakh tonnes to 14.10 lakh tonnes, in Maharashtra from 4.60 lakh tonnes to 16.75 lakh tonnes, and in Karnataka from 7.00 lakh tonnes to 8.20 lakh tonnes.

Furthermore, sugar production in Gujarat improved from 75 thousand tonnes to 90 thousand tonnes, and in Uttarakhand from 35 thousand tonnes to 40 thousand tonnes.

Sugar production has also begun in other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, but its quantity is limited and is at or below last year's level. Production in Tamil Nadu is also lagging behind.

The Federation has estimated the total production of pure (for edible purposes) sugar for the entire marketing season 2025-26 to jump to 315 lakh tonnes, which is 53.20 lakh tonnes or 20.32 per cent higher than the gross estimated production of 261.80 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.

Under this, sugar production is expected to be 105 lakh tonnes in Uttar Pradesh, 110 lakh tonnes in Maharashtra, 55 lakh tonnes in Karnataka, 8 lakh tonnes in Gujarat, 6 lakh tonnes in Bihar, 5.50 lakh tonnes each in Haryana and Punjab,

5 lakh tonnes in Madhya Pradesh, 7 lakh tonnes in Tamil Nadu, 4 lakh tonnes in Uttarakhand and 2.50 lakh tonnes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together.
