New Delhi. It seems that sugarcane sowing has come to a standstill in the last two-three weeks as no significant improvement is being seen in its area.

Data from the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that this year the total sugarcane production area at the national level improved to 55.16 lakh hectares till July 25, which is only 28 thousand hectares more than the area of 54.88 lakh hectares in the same period last year.

In view of the high market price of sugar, it was being speculated that this time there would be a good increase in the sugarcane area because the millers are paying the sugarcane price to the farmers on time.

The Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane has also been increased by Rs 15 per quintal, which was expected to encourage farmers to increase its area.

The weather and monsoon conditions have also remained favorable to a large extent. The sugarcane area has increased in Karnataka, but the situation in other states is not encouraging yet.

Everyone's attention is focused on the sugarcane sowing area in the two top sugar producing states - Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Similarly, sugarcane sowing area is also being monitored in producing states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

This time the monsoon rains are good, due to which there is a possibility of increase in the average productivity of sugarcane and the recovery rate of sugar, but for this it is necessary for the weather to remain favorable in August-September.

The new marketing season (2025-26) for crushing sugarcane and production of sugar will formally begin from October 2025.
