Supply of 6.24 Billion Litres of Grain-Based Ethanol by End of August

New Delhi. The All India Distillers Association states that during the current 2025-26 marketing season (November-October), 6.24 billion litres of grain-based ethanol were supplied to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), accounting for approximately 70 percent of the total supply received by them. Notably, the total ethanol supplied to OMCs between November 2025 and August 2026 stood at around 8.95 billion litres.

Distillers have contracted to supply a total of 10.48 billion litres of ethanol for the entire 2025-26 marketing season, a figure that includes ethanol produced from sugarcane-based feedstocks. About 85 percent of the total contracted volume has already been supplied, with the remaining 15 percent scheduled for delivery during the months of September and October.

Maize is the largest contributor to grain-based ethanol production; approximately 3.45 billion litres of ethanol derived from maize were supplied. This was followed by 2.14 billion litres produced from Food Corporation of India (FCI) surplus rice and 0.64 billion litres (640 million litres) produced from damaged food grains. It is worth noting that grain-based distillers were required to supply a total of 7.60 billion litres of ethanol for the current marketing season, of which 6.24 billion litres have already been delivered.

Regarding ethanol produced from sugarcane-based feedstocks, the total supply amounted to 2.71 billion litres against an allocated quota of 2.89 billion litres. This supply comprised 1.49 billion litres produced from sugarcane juice, 1.07 billion litres from B-heavy molasses, and 0.15 billion litres (150 million litres) from C-heavy molasses. The quota for the supply of ethanol produced from sugarcane-based feedstocks is likely to see some reduction in the upcoming marketing season, as the government aims to boost sugar production.
