International prices of tuar continue to remain under pressure. Tanzania Mtwara tuar, which was priced at 620 dollars per tonne on 1 August, dropped to 530 dollars by 19 September. Meanwhile, Myanmar Lemon CNF tuar, which stood at 860 dollars in January, declined to 685 dollars in September – a total fall of 175 dollars since January.
On a weekly basis, Tanzania tuar prices remained stable, while Myanmar Lemon tuar slipped by 15 dollars. In monthly comparison, Tanzania tuar fell by 80 dollars and Myanmar Lemon tuar by 15 dollars.
Africa’s tuar production is estimated at around 1 million tonnes this year. Weak international prices have squeezed exporters’ margins, leading to lower exports from Myanmar in August.
According to OATA, Myanmar exported 2.3 lakh tonnes of tuar between January and August, slightly lower than the same period last year.
In India, tuar imports stood at 2.92 lakh tonnes during April–July 2025, compared to 2.75 lakh tonnes in the same period last year. However, recent rains have stressed the crop, affecting its growth.
If domestic crops receive adequate rains, some recovery in the market is possible. But under current conditions, competition between Africa and Myanmar is likely to keep international prices under pressure. The future of the crop largely depends on weather.
