Tur (Pigeon Pea) Market – July 2025 Report
★ Tur prices remain under pressure. While prices of other pulses have increased, tur continues to face pressure from ample imported supplies.
★ Steady supply from Myanmar and upcoming African crop are keeping prices subdued.
★ Between 1st July and 30th July, Mozambique tur at Mumbai port fell by ₹150 to ₹5,725, while Gajri quality declined by ₹50, closing at ₹6,350/quintal.
★ Chennai tur (Lemon variety) dropped by ₹25 compared to the first week, closing at ₹6,350/quintal on 30th July.
★ Similar downward trends were observed in other domestic mandis. Competition between Myanmar and African origins is also increasing.
★ Before the arrival of African tur, Myanmar is trying to export maximum quantities to India.
★ African tur production is expected to reach around 1 million tonnes.
~~~~~~~~
Sowing:
★ Farmers responded to prolonged low prices by reducing acreage under tur.
★ Sowing data is becoming clearer – as earlier reported by IGrain India, tur acreage has declined, while moong acreage has increased due to better returns.
★ Full clarity on acreage will emerge in the next 15 days.
★ Reduced acreage and suboptimal rainfall in some tur-producing regions could affect production.
★ It is worth noting that even one bad season in tur impacts supply for the entire year.
~~~~~~~~
Outlook:
★ Current tur prices are at low levels.
★ Mild festive-driven price support may emerge in the coming weeks.
★ Market direction will depend on clarity of the crop situation in coming weeks and actual arrivals from Africa and Myanmar.
