Urad (Black Matpe) Market – July 2025 Report
★ Urad prices remain supported.
★ Imported urad witnessed a sharp rise in prices – On 30th July, urad in Mumbai and Chennai reached the highest levels of the month.
★ In the first week, Mumbai FAQ traded at ₹6,800–6,850/quintal, remaining stable in the first and second weeks, before prices rose in the third and final weeks. By 30th July, Mumbai urad FAQ reached ₹7,300/quintal. Chennai urad FAQ reached ₹7,225 and SQ at ₹7,425/quintal.
★ In July 2025, Chennai FAQ had touched a low of ₹6,600, while SQ traded at ₹7,200/quintal.
★ Myanmar urad FAQ prices increased by around $20–25 in July; however, this rise had limited impact on Indian mandis.
★ IGrain India believes that upcoming festive demand may continue to support prices in the near term.
★ Urad exports from Myanmar remain steady and regular.
★ Sowing data is becoming clearer – IGrain India had indicated in its earlier reports a decline in acreage, which is now being confirmed. The situation will become clearer in the next 15 days.
★ Due to farmer dissatisfaction with lower pulse prices, acreage under tur (pigeon pea) and urad has declined, while moong acreage has increased.
★ Moong imports are restricted, and its market operates based on real demand-supply dynamics, with government procurement support provided from time to time.
