New Delhi. Given the excellent domestic production and strong global demand, rice exports from India are expected to rise sharply to record levels during 2025-26.

The export price of Indian rice is also likely to remain competitive, maintaining its appeal among international buyers.

According to a report by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), rice exports from India are projected to climb to an all-time high of 24 million tonnes in the 2025-26 marketing season (October to September). This would raise India's share in the global rice export market to over 40 percent.

There is no concern regarding national food security due to India's substantial food grain reserves. As of April 27, there were about 661.60 lakh tonnes of food grains (rice and wheat) in the central pool. Domestic supply and availability remain stable, and prices are largely under control.

Exporters are easily sourcing rice at reasonable prices for trade. Additionally, the exchange rate of the rupee against the US dollar, which is around ₹85–86 per dollar, is favorable for exporters.

According to the Union Agriculture Ministry, rice production during the 2024-25 Kharif season is expected to reach a record 121 million tonnes, approximately seven percent higher than the previous year's output.

The USDA also noted that India could see record rice production for the tenth consecutive year. Although production in the 2025-26 season may rise further, the increase is expected to be modest, and much will depend on the performance of the south-west monsoon.

In India, rice is cultivated not only during the Kharif season but also in the Rabi and Zaid seasons.
