Uttar Pradesh government grants relaxation in URS wheat procurement
After similar relaxations already announced in Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, the Uttar Pradesh government has now allowed relaxation in wheat procurement norms due to damage caused by unseasonal rains. The move is aimed at protecting farmers’ interests and preventing distress sales.
As per the circular, the limit for lustre loss (loss of grain shine) has been relaxed up to 70% across the state. Additionally, the permissible limit for shrivelled and broken grains has been increased from 6% to 20%.
The circular also states that wheat procured under these relaxed norms will be stored separately and will be used only within the state. Any further deterioration in quality during storage will be the sole responsibility of the Uttar Pradesh state government.
