Water Crisis Worsens in Eastern India
Key Findings (Central Water Commission Data):
- 12 out of 25 reservoirs in Eastern & Northeastern India have less than 40% water stock.
- Bihar’s only reservoir: Just 18% water left, raising serious concerns.
- Total available water: 9.083 BCM out of 20.798 BCM (only 44% of total capacity).
State-wise Water Stock:
- Jharkhand: 54% (Relatively better).
- Tripura: 65% (Highest stock in the region).
- Other states: Below 45% storage capacity.
Comparison with Western India:
- Western India (50 reservoirs): 55% of total capacity (Better reserves).
- Total storage capacity: 37.357 BCM
- Available stock: 20.417 BCM
- Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra have over 50% stock, so less severe crisis.
