Chickpea prices continue to decline due to continued lack of demand
New Delhi. The chickpea market remained bearish during the current week. Continued weak demand, limited buying by dal millers, and import pressure led to a decline in chickpea prices in major markets across the country. Demand from dal millers is currently very subdued, as expected uptake of chickpea dal is not being observed. Consumer demand at the retail level also remains weak, leading to no significant increase in dal consumption. Consequently, millers are currently avoiding large purchases. Regarding the international market, cheap chickpea deals from Australia and Tanzania are also putting pressure on the domestic market. Chickpeas from these countries are being sold at relatively low prices for the coming months, which has weakened Indian buyer sentiment. Due to weak demand, the prices of Delhi gram declined by Rs 100 per quintal this week and with this decline, the prices of Madhya Pradesh line remained at Rs 5900 and Rajasthan line at Rs 5950 per quintal at the end of the week.
