News Capsule: Wheat procurement picks up pace in Punjab
★ Wheat procurement is progressing well in Punjab. Out of 28 Lakh Metric tons (LMT) arrivals in mandis, more than 24 LMT has already been procured.
★ The government has provided relief to farmers by ensuring procurement at the MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal, with around ₹647 crore directly transferred to farmers’ accounts.
★ Payments are being made within 48 hours, and lifting of stocks has also gained momentum.
★ Due to crop damage caused by adverse weather, the government has relaxed procurement quality norms to support affected farmers.
