Weekly Review: Gram Prices Fall as Demand Remains Sluggish
New Delhi – Gram prices have continued to decrease over the last week due to increased availability of imported gram and sluggish demand. The weak demand for both gram dal and gram flour has led to limited purchases by dal millers, exerting pressure on prices. In October, India imported 82,481 tonnes of gram out of a total of 1,09,622 tonnes, marking the highest import level since 2017. Additionally, sowing has increased to 86 lakh hectares, a 1.9% rise from the previous year’s 84.42 lakh hectares.
In response to low demand from dal millers for chana dal and gram flour, gram prices in Delhi dropped by Rs. 100 per quintal. This left prices at the end of the week at Rs. 6625-6750 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Regional Price Trends:
Port: Increased availability of imported gram at the port led to sharp declines in the prices of imported varieties. Tanzania gram fell by Rs. 200, while Australian gram saw a Rs. 400 decrease, ending the week at Rs. 6150 and Rs. 6300-6350 per quintal, respectively.
Rajasthan: Prices in Rajasthan also saw a decline, falling by Rs. 75-100 per quintal due to sluggish buying. Prices at the end of the week were as follows:

- Jaipur: Rs. 6750/6800
- Bikaner: Rs. 6350/6400

- Nagpur: Rs. 6700/6725

- Ganjbasoda: Rs. 6100/6500

Gram Dal Prices:
As a result of the falling prices of raw gram and low demand, prices of gram dal decreased by Rs. 100-200 per quintal. Prices at the weekend were:
- Delhi: Rs. 7750/8200
- Bhatapara: Rs. 7700/7900
