Paddy and rice prices mixed as supplies increase at the end of the season

New Delhi. The 2024-25 marketing season will conclude at the end of the current season, and new paddy stocks will begin arriving next month (October 2025). In view of this, producers and stockists have begun increasing paddy sales.
Punjab
Although severe floods in Punjab this year are feared to have caused significant damage to the Basmati rice crop, which could reduce the availability of Basmati rice, prices may also soften if there is a strong demand in the new marketing season.
Arrivals
According to data received during the week of September 13-19, daily arrivals of paddy at Delhi's Narela Mandi ranged between 15,000 and 25,000 bags. Due to strong trading in only 1,509 bags, prices improved by ₹82 to ₹3,182 per quintal. Arrivals of 1,509 Basmati rice are also increasing in other markets, as harvesting begins first. Arrivals will continue to increase rapidly in the coming days.
Chhattisgarh / Amritsar
Daily arrivals of paddy ranged between 4,500 and 5,500 bags at Bhatpara Mandi in Chhattisgarh and 2,500 and 5,000 bags at Rajim Mandi, but prices remained unchanged. Amritsar, Punjab, is receiving 20,000 to 30,000 bags of paddy daily, and millers/processors are waiting for purchases. Arrivals have also begun to increase rapidly in Tarn Taran.
Uttar Pradesh
There are indications of a heavy arrival of paddy in Mainpuri, Jahangirabad, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, and Khair in Uttar Pradesh, but prices are not fluctuating significantly. New paddy is also being reported in Haryana. Limited arrivals are occurring in Rajasthan.
Rice
As for rice, export demand remains strong, and domestic demand is expected to increase. The government is selling its stocks across the board to free up space in warehouses for safe storage of the next shipment. Basmati holley is performing well in exports.
Bhatpara
Prices of HMT and Shriram rice increased by ₹100 each during September 13-19 in the Bhatpara market. Prices of 1509 steamed rice also increased by ₹100 in Amritsar. Rice prices in the Nagar market of Uttarakhand showed a mixed trend, while those in the Karnal market of Haryana remained stable.
Delhi
Sharbati steamed rice prices rose by Rs 200 to Rs 5200/5500 per quintal in Delhi's Naya Bazar, while Sugandha Sela and Sugandha steamed rice prices declined by Rs 100 per quintal each.
