Mixed trend in paddy; rice prices improve
New Delhi: Limited quantities of Basmati and 'A' grade paddy have been arriving for some time at select wholesale markets across the country, including Narela, Bhatapara, Rajim, Kota, Bundi, Shahjahanpur, Jahangirabad, and Gondia. Some fluctuation in paddy prices was observed during the week of July 25–31. At Delhi's Narela market, the price of '1509 Combine' paddy rose by ₹75 to reach ₹3,600 per quintal. Meanwhile, daily arrivals stood at 4,000–6,000 bags in Chhattisgarh's Bhatapara market and 8,000–10,000 bags in Rajim; prices in Rajim remained largely stable.
Uttar Pradesh
Paddy prices improved slightly at the Shahjahanpur market in Uttar Pradesh, where daily arrivals ranged between 10,000 and 20,000 bags. The price of 'PR 26' paddy increased by ₹100 to reach ₹1,900–₹2,100 per quintal. At the Khair market, the price of '1121 Hand' paddy softened by ₹45, with arrivals totaling 3,000–5,000 bags.
Rajasthan
At the Bundi market in Rajasthan, paddy arrivals initially stood at 1,500 bags but later dropped to 400–500 bags. However, daily arrivals at the Kota market rose to 12,000 bags. There was no significant volatility in prices. At the Gondia market in Maharashtra, daily arrivals reached 3,000 bags, and prices remained stable.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, Basmati rice exports are being partially affected by the ongoing crisis in the Gulf region; nevertheless, a slight improvement in prices was recorded during the week under review. In Bhatapara, the price of Shriram rice rose by ₹100 to reach ₹7,000–₹7,100 per quintal. Swarna rice also saw a price increase of ₹100.
Punjab / Amritsar
In Amritsar, the price of 1718 Sela rice surged by ₹250 to reach ₹8,800–₹8,850 per quintal, while prices for some other varieties also increased by ₹50. Prices remained stable in the Nagar Mandi (Uttarakhand) and Rajim Mandi (Chhattisgarh). However, prices in Bundi rose by ₹50–₹100 per quintal. Fluctuations of ₹100 per quintal were observed in Delhi's Naya Bazar.
