Strong export demand for rice- mixed trend in paddy prices
New Delhi. In view of the ongoing war between India and Pakistan, the domestic and export demand for rice has become strong, due to which a good increase is being seen in the prices of Basmati rice. The price of Basmati paddy has also increased a bit.
Delhi
During the week of 3-9 May, about 8-10 thousand sacks of paddy arrived daily in Delhi's Narela Mandi and the prices of some varieties increased. The price of Taj increased by Rs 75 to Rs 2300 per quintal, 1718 increased by Rs 45 to Rs 3570 per quintal and the price of 1509 hand improved by Rs 40 to Rs 2980 per quintal.
Chhattisgarh
But in Bhatpara and Rajim Mandis of Chhattisgarh, the prices of paddy declined by Rs 100-200 per quintal. The price of paddy remained stable in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, but in Aligarh, the price of Basmati paddy improved by 50-100 rupees amid daily arrival of 2-3 thousand bags, while Sharbati paddy softened by 50 rupees.
Rajasthan
With normal arrival in Bundi and Kota Mandi of Rajasthan, the price of Basmati paddy improved. In Bundi, 5 to 10 thousand bags of paddy were supplied daily and there the prices increased by 50 to 250 rupees per quintal. The price of 1509 paddy increased by 250 rupees to 3000/3150 rupees per quintal. The price of Pusa Basmati paddy in Kota Mandi increased by 250 rupees to 2800/3200 rupees per quintal and the price of 1509 paddy jumped by 300 rupees to 2600/2950 rupees per quintal.
Rice
As far as rice is concerned, its price was either stable or higher due to good demand. HMT rice in Bhatpara rose by Rs 100 to Rs 5600/5700 per quintal. Steam HMT 2024 also rose by Rs 100 in Raichur, Karnataka.
Punjab/Amritsar
In Amritsar, Punjab, the price of 1121 Sela, 1509 Sela & Steam and 1718 Sela & Steam rice increased by Rs 100 to Rs 300 per quintal due to strong export demand. Importers from countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen and America are showing great interest in buying Indian Basmati rice.
Uttarakhand
The price of rice remained stable in Nagar Mandi of Uttarakhand, but the price of rice in Bundi of Rajasthan and Karnal of Haryana increased by Rs 200-300 per quintal. In Karnal, the price of 1509 steam and 1718 sella rice jumped by Rs 300 each to Rs 7000 and Rs 6300 per quintal respectively. The same situation was seen in Delhi's Naya Bazar where the price of almost all varieties and categories of rice increased by Rs 100 to Rs 300 per quintal.
