Mixed trend in peanut prices according to demand and supply
New Delhi. Despite the Central Government purchasing record amount of Kharif peanuts from farmers under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), the prices of this important oilseed did not rise as expected.
Arrival
On March 25, 25 thousand bags of peanuts arrived in Gondal, Gujarat and 10 thousand bags arrived in Rajkot, while its price remained stable at Rs 5000/5600 per quintal and Rs 6000/8000 per quintal respectively. The minimum support price of peanuts is fixed at Rs 6783 per quintal.
Price
During the week of March 22-28, the price of peanuts fell by Rs 100 to Rs 5200 per quintal in Bikaner, Rajasthan and by Rs 200 to Rs 7000 per quintal in Solapur, Maharashtra. Although there was a rise of 100-150 rupees in the markets of Uttar Pradesh, but the prices there are already running very low. The price of groundnut improved by 100 rupees each in Jhansi and Mahoba of UP to 4200/4600 rupees per quintal and 4400/4700 rupees per quintal respectively and in Mauranipur it increased by 150 rupees to 4300/4500 rupees per quintal, but still remained much below the MSP.
Groundnut seeds
Due to limited trading in shellless groundnut seeds, not much change was seen in the prices. In Jaipur, 60/70 count seeds improved by 100 rupees, while in Solapur, the price of 90/100 count seeds fell by 300 rupees to 9000 rupees per quintal.
Groundnut oil
The business of groundnut oil remained weak and its price in loose form fell by 25 rupees per 10 kg. There was a decline of 25 rupees in Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh and Jamnagar. Prices were also seen softening in Rajasthan. But the price of branded groundnut oil improved by 10-20 rupees. The price of filtered oil also improved.

But prices remained stable amid sluggish trading in oil cake and DOC. Export demand for groundnut seeds and oil has weakened.
