Peanut prices soften with weak business
New Delhi. Although there was normal arrival of peanuts in the major producing markets during the week of June 28 to July 4, but due to weak business demand, its price declined by Rs 50-100 per quintal.
Gujarat
In Gujarat's Rajkot market, its arrival increased from 600 bags to 9 thousand bags on July 2, but later it decreased to 5-6 thousand bags. There its price remained stable at Rs 6500/7500 per quintal.
Rajasthan
In Jodhpur, Rajasthan also, the price remained at the old level of Rs 6500/6600 per quintal, but in Bikaner it softened by Rs 50 to Rs 5200 per quintal. Similarly, due to weak business in Solapur, Maharashtra, the price of peanuts fell by Rs 100 to Rs 6700 per quintal.
Uttar Pradesh
The market in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a mixed trend. The price in Jhansi remained at the previous level of Rs. 4200/4800 per quintal and its arrival was between 1750/2250 bags, but in Mahoba market, the price of peanuts fell by Rs. 100 to Rs. 4700/5000 per quintal amid daily arrival of 550-1100 bags. On the other hand, due to limited arrival in Mauranipur, the price improved by Rs. 25 to Rs. 4600/4875.
Groundnut seeds
There was a good business in Bikaner in shellless peanut seeds, due to which the price of 50/60 count seeds increased by Rs. 300 and the price of 60/70 count seeds increased by Rs. 500 to Rs. 8600 per quintal. In other centers, the prices of different count seeds remained stable.
Groundnut oil
Loose (bulk) groundnut oil saw some improvement in demand due to which its price improved by Rs 25 to Rs 1375 per 10 kg in Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh and Jamnagar of Gujarat. Similarly, the price of 15 kg tin of oil in Rajkot increased by Rs 40 to Rs 2205. Some improvement in its price was also recorded at other centers.
Branded oil
But the price of branded groundnut oil in Kota, Rajasthan remained at the previous level of Rs 2350 per tin (15 kg). The prices of filtered groundnut oil increased by Rs 10 to Rs 25 per 10 kg. Business is seen to be normal in the edible oil-oilseeds market. Sowing for the Kharif crop of groundnut has already started and there are indications of increase in its acreage in the main producing state Gujarat.
