Peanut prices fall sharply due to new arrivals and weak demand.

New Delhi. Peanut prices are under significant pressure. Harvesting of the new crop has begun, with sporadic arrivals in the markets, while domestic and export demand remains weak.
Price
During the week of September 13-19, peanut prices in Rajkot, Gujarat, fell by Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000/6,000 per quintal.
Arrivals
Daily arrivals were 2,000/3,000 bags of peanuts, while Gondal saw heavy supply of 31,000 bags on September 18 and 35,000 bags on September 19. Arrivals are expected to increase even more rapidly.
Peanuts
Due to weak trading, peanut prices fell by ₹200 to ₹5,000 per quintal in Bikaner, Rajasthan, but remained stable at the previous level of ₹6,800 per quintal in Solapur, Maharashtra.
Uttar Pradesh
Markets in Uttar Pradesh remained weak. Peanut prices fell by ₹300 to ₹4,000/4,700 per quintal in Jhansi, ₹200 to ₹4,400/4,800 in Mahoba, and ₹150 to ₹4,500/4,750 per quintal in Mauranipur. Average daily arrivals in Jhansi were 1,000 bags of peanuts.
Peanut Seeds
Dehulled peanut seed trading also remained weak, with prices for 40/50 and 50/60 counts falling by Rs. 300 each to Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 7,300 per quintal in Bikaner, Rajasthan, while prices for 60/70 counts fell by Rs. 200 to Rs. 7,100 per quintal. In Nagpur, prices fell by Rs. 100 to Rs. 9,800 per quintal.
Groundnut Oil
Loose peanut oil prices fell by Rs. 5 to Rs. 1,325 per 10 kg in Rajkot, Gondal, Junagadh, and Jamnagar in Gujarat due to slightly lower than normal trading. Similarly, the price of a 15 kg tin of oil dropped by Rs. 20 to Rs. 2,120. Prices also softened by Rs. 20 each in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bikaner, and Newai/Tonk.
Branded Oil
The price of branded peanut oil remained stable at Rs 2,350 per tin (15 liters) in Kota, while the price of filtered peanut oil softened slightly in Jaipur and Newai. Gujarat and Rajasthan are expected to have a bumper crop this year.
