Pea prices fall due to sluggish demand

Kanpur. This week, a continuous decline has been seen in the pea market. According to market sources, pea prices are under pressure due to selling by stockists and lack of customers. Supply is maintained in the market, but prices are not able to remain stable due to weak interest of buyers. Due to sluggish demand, traders are avoiding new purchases, due to which a bearish trend is maintained in the market. Experts believe that if the purchase does not improve, further decline in pea prices can be seen. Harvesting of new pea crop is gaining momentum in Saskatchewan and Alberta, the major producing provinces of Western Canada. Yellow pea prices have weakened further this week due to increased supply of new crop in the markets and sluggish purchases by major importing countries. Its delivery price has come down to $ 8.00–8.50 per bushel depending on movement and location, but it is difficult to find a buyer at $ 8.50. Green pea prices have also fallen to $12.00–12.50 per bushel, which is 50 cents lower than last week. There are reports of quality being affected by unseasonal rains. India has made yellow pea import duty free till March 31, 2026, but importers there are not in a hurry to buy at the moment. China has imposed 100% import duty on Canada, which has hindered exports. Demand in India also remains stable. Imports are expected to increase during the festive season, but it may be much lower than last year. Due to increased selling pressure from importers and weakening demand, imported pea prices also declined by Rs 50 per quintal during the current week and the prices remained at Mumbai Canada Rs 3450 Russia Rs 3250 and currency Canada Rs 3200/3250 and Russia Rs 3100/3150 per quintal at the weekend. Prices of Kolkata peas also declined by Rs 25 per quintal this week and remained at Rs 3700 for Canada and Rs 3450 for Russia. Due to sluggish buying, prices of Kanpur peas declined by Rs 75 per quintal this week and remained at Rs 3450/3500 per quintal at the weekend. Similarly, prices of Lalitpur peas declined by Rs 25/50 per quintal this week and remained at Rs 3200/3350 per quintal at the weekend. Due to customer support, Orai peas declined by Rs 150 per quintal this week and remained at Rs 3050/3100 per quintal at the weekend. Similarly, Mahoba peas also declined by Rs 100 per quintal this week and remained at Rs 3200/3500 per quintal. Due to sluggish demand, prices of peas in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a fall of Rs. 50/100 per quintal this week and the prices remained at Rs. 3100/3200 in Bina and Rs. 3150/3200 per quintal in Damoh at the end of the week.

Due to sluggish demand, prices of peas dal witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal during the last week and with this fall, the prices remained at Rs. 3900/3950 in Kanpur and Rs. 4050/4150 per quintal in Indore at the end of the week.
