Good increase in sugar prices with better business
New Delhi. For the last few weeks, the mill delivery price and spot market price of sugar remained sluggish, stable or soft and it was being purchased in limited quantity by traders-stockists as well as consuming industries. But during the week of 19-25 July, there was better business in sugar in which a good increase was recorded in its prices. The festive season is going to start from next month.
Mill Delivery Price
During the week under review, the mill delivery price of sugar increased by Rs 60 per quintal in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Rs 50-50 per quintal in western Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, while in Punjab it remained stable at the previous level of Rs 4021/4221 per quintal. In Bihar, the price softened by Rs 20. But in Gujarat, the mill delivery price of sugar increased by Rs 70-90 to Rs 3891/4090 per quintal.
Spot price
Spot price of sugar also witnessed a rise. In Delhi, it jumped by 110 rupees to 4290/4390 rupees per quintal, in Indore it increased by 75 rupees to 4200/4300 rupees per quintal, in Raipur it improved by 2500 rupees to 4125/4200 rupees per quintal and in Mumbai (Vashi) it increased by 30 rupees to 3920/4120 rupees per quintal. The Naka port delivery price of sugar also increased by 30 rupees to reach 3870/4070 rupees per quintal. The price remained stable to a large extent in Kolkata.
Tender
There was some improvement in the tender price of sugar. In Maharashtra, it improved by 15-30 rupees to 3832/3900 rupees and in Karnataka it increased by 45-60 rupees to reach 3815/3970 rupees per quintal.
Production
Domestic sugar production is expected to decline to around 260 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.
Quota
The government had issued a free sale quota of 22 lakh tonnes for July and almost the same quota is likely to be left for August as well. The new quota may be announced on the 28th. If this happens, the price of sugar may remain strong going forward.
