Turmeric Trade Low: Prices Soft
New Delhi. Turmeric prices have remained within a narrow range for some time, fluctuating by 2-3 rupees. While it is true that the area under turmeric cultivation has increased in the current season's growing states, damage is expected in some areas due to the incessant rains over the past few days. However, the exact extent of the damage will be known only after the weather clears. Sources say that apart from the Nizamabad region, the crop will definitely be damaged in the Nanded region of Marathwada. However, there are no reports of crop damage in Basmat and Hingoli yet. The situation is also good on the Sangli region, while the weather in Erode and Andhra Pradesh remains favorable for the crop. It is noteworthy that this year, turmeric has been sown on a 25-30 percent larger area in the country compared to last year. Turmeric is grown in Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. The state of Maharashtra contributes approximately 40-45 percent of total production. New turmeric arrivals begin in January-February.
Low Arrivals
Except for the Marathwada Line (Hingoli, Basmat, and Nanded), arrivals of turmeric in the markets of other states have been significantly low. Arrivals at the Erode market are averaging 1,200-1,500 bags, while arrivals at Nizamabad are averaging 400-500 bags daily. Arrivals at the Duggirala market in Andhra Pradesh are averaging 400-500 bags. Arrivals at Hingoli and Basmat in Marathwada are averaging 4,000-5,000 bags.
Slow-Rise
Traders believe that there is no possibility of a decline in current turmeric prices. Because despite the decline in demand in the market for some time, prices are being quoted between 1.5 and 2.5 percent per kilogram. Currently, turmeric prices are lower than last year. According to information received, in September last year, the price of a single polished bundle of turmeric in the Delhi market was ₹144/146 per kilogram, while the current price is ₹126/128. Traders believe that turmeric prices are likely to remain high in the coming days. While arrivals in the markets have remained low, export and local demand are expected to increase in October. During the current week, turmeric prices in the Delhi market, including in the producing centers, were quoted at previous levels. Turmeric prices in futures markets also remained limited. October turmeric futures opened at ₹12,498 and closed at ₹12,338. December turmeric opened at ₹12,638 and closed at ₹12,620. Sources believe that turmeric prices should rise soon, as the new crop is still about 4-5 months away.
Export
Turmeric exports did not increase as expected during the current financial year 2025-26 (April-March). According to information received, turmeric exports increased by 3 percent in volume in the first quarter of the current season, while other exports increased by 4 percent.
