Desi Tuvar prices improve due to increased buying by millers

Weekly Review - Tuvar Prices (December 2024)

The prices of Desi Tuvar saw an increase this week, driven by heightened demand from millers and stockists. Weakening selling at reduced prices further bolstered the bullish trend. However, the imported Tuvar market remained soft. The government has set state-wise procurement limits for Tuvar, totaling 9.66 lakh tonnes. Key allocations include Uttar Pradesh (3951.75 tonnes), Andhra Pradesh (95,620 tonnes), Telangana (169,140 tonnes), Karnataka (306,150 tonnes), and Haryana (495 tonnes), but Maharashtra, a major producer, has yet to announce its purchase.

Key Price Trends:

  • Imported Tuvar: Prices remained soft due to continued selling pressure from importers and weak demand. Chennai Tuvar Lemon dropped by Rs. 150 per quintal, ending the week at Rs. 7700 per quintal. Similarly, African Tuvar in Mumbai saw a reduction of Rs. 100 per quintal, with Mozambique White at Rs. 6500 and other varieties in the Rs. 6250-6300 range.

  • Burma Tuvar: The prices dropped by $50 per tonne due to weak export demand, settling at $880-890 per tonne.

  • Delhi: Both Tuvar Lemon and Desi Tuvar saw significant declines, with prices falling by Rs. 1400 and Rs. 1550 per quintal, respectively. Prices for Lemon reached Rs. 8500 and Desi Tuvar stood at Rs. 8600-8800 per quintal by the weekend.

  • Maharashtra: Prices rose by Rs. 100-200 per quintal due to increased buying by pulses millers and stockists. Prices ranged from Rs. 7000-8350 for Solapur to Rs. 7500-8300 for Dudhni.

  • Karnataka: Prices rose by Rs. 200-400 per quintal amid better demand. The price range for various regions in Karnataka was Rs. 7000-8600 per quintal.

  • Madhya Pradesh: Dal millers' increased buying resulted in a price rise of Rs. 150-300 per quintal. Prices ranged from Rs. 5500-8800 in various regions of Madhya Pradesh.

  • Raipur and Kanpur: Both cities saw a price increase, with Raipur Tuvar rising by Rs. 300 per quintal (Rs. 8200-8650) and Kanpur by Rs. 100 per quintal (Rs. 7000).

Tuvar Dal Prices: Due to weak demand, Tuvar Dal prices experienced a decline of Rs. 300-600 per quintal. Prices for Fatka varieties ranged from Rs. 13,300-14,100 in Delhi and Katni, to Rs. 13,500-14,500 in Akola and Gulbarga.

This week's trend indicates a mixed market, with increased buying activity in some areas pushing prices up, while weak demand and selling pressures in others led to price declines.
