Demand keeps Urad prices down

Chennai: The Urad market in Chennai continues to face downward pressure, as weak demand persists. The lack of customers for Urad Dal and Urad Gota has led to sluggish buying by dal millers. Consequently, Urad prices have fallen by Rs 50-200 per quintal, with FAQ priced at Rs 7875 and SQ at Rs 8650 per quintal by the weekend.

Kolkata: In Kolkata, Urad prices also saw a decline of Rs 100 per quintal, with prices closing at Rs 8100 per quintal.

Burma: The sluggish export demand has affected Burma Urad prices, which dropped by $25 per tonne. This brought the prices down to $880 per tonne for FAQ and $980 per tonne for SQ by the weekend.

Delhi: Urad prices in Delhi declined by Rs 50-150 per quintal due to reduced buying and falling port prices. The weekend prices were Rs 8250 for FAQ and Rs 9100 for SQ.

Madhya Pradesh: In Madhya Pradesh, there was minimal movement in Urad prices due to lack of buying activity. Prices remained stable, with Ashoknagar at Rs 5500/7300, Jabalpur at Rs 5000/7800, Damoh at Rs 5400/7700, and Indore at Rs 7500/8200 per quintal.

Maharashtra: Prices in Maharashtra showed mixed trends with some fluctuations in the range of Rs 50-100 per quintal. Prices by the weekend were: Akola Rs 8300, Latur Rs 5000/8000, Solapur Rs 6100/8300, Dudhni Rs 7000/8200, and Ahmednagar Rs 5500/7500 per quintal.

Other Areas: The prices in Krishna District and Vijayawada dropped by Rs 200 per quintal due to weak demand, with Krishna District prices at Rs 8200 and Vijayawada prices at Rs 8300-8350 per quintal.

Urad Dal: Weak demand continued to affect Urad Dal prices, which fell by Rs 100-200 per quintal. Prices by the weekend were:

  • Delhi: Rs 10750/11750
  • Bhatapara: Rs 10400/10500
  • Jalgaon: Rs 11000
  • Meerut: Rs 9200/9600
  • Indore: Rs 9800/12000 per quintal

In summary, Urad prices across regions are largely down due to weak demand from both domestic buyers and exporters. The market outlook remains subdued as dal millers and importers are showing little interest in purchasing at the current price levels.
