Wheat prices improve as government and private purchases continue

New Delhi. Government agencies are purchasing wheat from farmers at the minimum support price of Rs 2425 per quintal and traders and flour millers at a slightly higher price than this, due to which the wholesale market price of this important food grain increased during the week of 3-9 November. The arrival of wheat in the markets of other states except Rajasthan has also started decreasing.
Bonus on MSP
In Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, government purchase of wheat is being done at the rate of Rs 2600 per quintal and Rs 2575 per quintal respectively with additional bonus of Rs 175 and Rs 150, while in the remaining states - Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat etc. wheat is being purchased at the support price of Rs 2425 per quintal.
Delhi
During the week under review, the price of wheat improved by Rs 50 to Rs 2720-2725 per quintal in Delhi and increased by Rs 80 to Rs 2395/2910 per quintal in Indore. However, the price slipped by Rs 50 to Rs 2425/3000 per quintal in Ujjain, but in other mandis it either remained stable or increased slightly.
Rajasthan
The price of wheat in Kota and Bundi of Rajasthan increased by Rs 50 and Rs 100 respectively, but in Baran Mandi it decreased by Rs 105 to Rs 2390/2680 per quintal. The price of wheat remained somewhat high in almost all the mandis of Uttar Pradesh, but in Jalna Mandi of Maharashtra it decreased by Rs 100 to Rs 2525/3200 per quintal.
Purchase target
This time, along with government agencies, private buyers are also purchasing a good quantity of wheat from the farmers. Government procurement of wheat has crossed the 280 lakh tonne mark and is now moving towards 300 lakh tonne. The Food Ministry has set a target of procurement of 332.70 lakh tonne.
Arrival
8-10 thousand bags of wheat are arriving in Delhi every day and due to better buying support, its price remains strong. Heavy arrival of wheat has already taken place in Madhya Pradesh and now the pace of supply has slowed down. A good stock of wheat has accumulated in the central pool while millers and stockists also have high stock of wheat.
