Limited fluctuations in wheat prices according to demand and supply
New Delhi. The peak season of wheat supply as well as the time of government procurement is going to end soon. Arrival is taking place in the mandis.
Purchase
This time a good amount of wheat has been purchased from the farmers by traders and flour millers and government procurement has also crossed the figure of 300 lakh tonnes, which is the highest in the last four years. Limited fluctuations were recorded in wheat prices during the week of June 21-27 amid normal trading.
Gujarat / Rajasthan
During the week under review, wheat prices increased by Rs 100-100 per quintal in Rajkot of Gujarat and Dewas of Madhya Pradesh, while in most of the remaining mandis, prices registered a slight rise and fall of Rs 10 to 25 per quintal. The price of wheat fell by Rs 80 in Kota, Rajasthan and Rs 50 per quintal in Jalna, Maharashtra.
Delhi
The price of wheat in Delhi fell by Rs 5 to Rs 2730/2735 per quintal. Due to limited buying and selling in the markets of Uttar Pradesh, the prices of wheat fluctuated by Rs 10-20 per quintal.
Arrival
Delhi received 8-10 thousand sacks of wheat daily, while its quantity was recorded as 2-3 thousand sacks in Rajkot, 1000-2000 sacks in Indore, 2000-5000 sacks in Kota, 5-10 thousand sacks in Hardoi, 2-3 thousand sacks in Shahjahanpur and 10-15 thousand sacks in Gorakhpur.
Stock
Stock limit is applicable on wheat, hence less activity of buyers is being seen. The government also has good stock and it is also keeping an eye on the market. There has been a ban on the commercial export of wheat and its products for a long time.
Production Estimates
The Ministry of Agriculture has estimated the domestic production of wheat to be 1170 lakh tonnes during the current year, which is an all-time high. This has had a psychological impact on the market. In most of the mandis, the price of wheat is currently running around or slightly above the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and it seems difficult for it to increase substantially in the near future.
