Wheat prices improve due to delay in sale of government stock
New Delhi. Although the government has already declared the minimum reserve price of wheat to be sold under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) as Rs 2550 per quintal, the sale process has not started yet and has not indicated its start in the near future. Food Secretary said that there is no need to start auction sale of government wheat at present. After this clarification, the flour millers and processors who were waiting for government wheat were forced to buy it from wholesale markets.
Delhi
During the week of July 19 to 25, the price of wheat in Delhi increased by Rs 30 to Rs 2800/2810 per quintal.
Madhya Pradesh
Mixed prices were seen in Madhya Pradesh. There, the price of wheat increased by Rs 50-50 in Indore and Dabra and Rs 25 in Itarsi, but decreased by Rs 50-50 per quintal in Dewas and Ujjain.
Arrival
Earlier, the daily arrival of wheat in Delhi was 5-9 thousand sacks, but after the rise in prices, it increased to 10 thousand sacks on 25th July. There was a good supply of wheat in some mandis of Madhya Pradesh as well and buyers showed interest in buying it.
Rajasthan
There was a good business of wheat in the mandis of Rajasthan and especially in Kota and Bundi, due to which the prices improved. The price of wheat jumped by Rs 140 to Rs 2550/2700 per quintal in Kota mandi and by Rs 50 in Bundi to Rs 2550/2600 per quintal. On an average, 5-7 thousand sacks of wheat arrived daily in Kota mandi.
Uttar Pradesh
There was an environment of improvement in the price of wheat in the mandis of Uttar Pradesh as well. There, its price in Gonda increased by Rs 70 to Rs 2625 per quintal.
Maharashtra
Prices remained stable at Rs 2520/2750 per quintal in Jalna Mandi of Maharashtra. The government has a surplus stock of 50-60 lakh tonnes of wheat which can be sold in the coming months. Farmers and traders/stockists also have its stock but there are signs of improvement in prices.
