Delhi – Lawrence Road:
In the first half of May, wheat prices in Delhi’s Lawrence Road market witnessed a consistent upward trend.
On 1 May, godown prices ranged between ₹2650–2665 per quintal, rising to ₹2745–2755 by 16 May.
Between 8 and 10 May, rates reached ₹2730–2745, while on 13 May, they settled at ₹2710/2715.
From 14 to 16 May, the market strengthened again, touching ₹2755.
The surge was mainly attributed to increased demand from millers and lower arrivals in the market.
Madhya Pradesh – Jabalpur:
Prices remained mostly steady between ₹2400–2525.
From 13 to 16 May, the range slightly narrowed from ₹2400–2535 to ₹2400–2520.
Rajasthan – Sri Ganganagar:
The market stayed within a narrow band throughout the fortnight, with prices ranging from ₹2485–2557.
On 16 May, the average price stood at ₹2495–2557.
Uttar Pradesh:
Shahjahanpur: Started the month at ₹2461–2485 and rose to ₹2510–2530 by 16 May.
Gorakhpur: Prices remained flat at ₹2420 for most of the period, with a sudden spike to ₹2680 on 15 May.
Mathura: Prices moved up from ₹2440 on 2 May to ₹2480–2511 by 16 May.
Overall, wheat prices in Uttar Pradesh saw some upward movement due to multiple factors:
Higher prices in Madhya Pradesh, driven by bonus procurement.
Lower base prices in UP leading to fresh buying interest.
In the first half of May 2025, Delhi’s Lawrence Road emerged as the strongest center with consistent price gains.
Other markets in North India saw mild to moderate firmness, while MP and Rajasthan remained largely stable.
Given the current trend, market participants are advised to remain cautious.
Despite good production and ample stocks this year, the high price levels could trigger increased government intervention.
